The problem
Zambia's forests are disappearing faster than they can regrow
Unemployment pushes rural households towards firewood, charcoal and timber. The result is extreme deforestation, rising greenhouse gases, degraded soils, polluted open water sources and serious risks to human health.

Livelihood pressure
Communities depend on charcoal and timber trade because alternatives are scarce.
Land & water degradation
Bush burning, fertiliser overuse and encroachment onto water body banks deplete soils.
Health consequences
Polluted air, soil and water disrupt hormone, nervous and immune systems — deepening poverty.
Our approach
Six pillars of community-led change
UCA works through ownership, not intervention. Communities and youth run the work — we equip, train, follow up and report.
On the ground
Real nurseries, real training, real planting days

Long-term impact
What changes when a community owns its trees
Reduced poverty
Fruit surplus sales and kernel-charcoal clubs create household income beyond charcoal burning.
Increased tree cover
Agroforestry adoption and millions of trees annually restore green cover across districts.
Cleaner water & air
Protected water body buffer zones cut pollution, floods and drought exposure.
